Ghostbusters: First trailer for all-female reboot arrives
After first appearing in the original Ghostbusters, the “focused, non-terminal repeating phantasm” took on new life in the animated series as a sidekick to the team. The film stars Melissa McCarthy, Kirsten Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth.

As the trailer for the all-female Ghostbusters is released, here are five things we’ve learnt from the preview of one of this year’s most eagerly anticipated films. But this time their ride is a pimped-out hearse. Meanwhile, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts are all confirmed to cameo. Go to any Internet board discussing the movie and you’ll see commenters saying it’s ruining a childhood classic, while others don’t like that it’s an all-female reboot. The original is so good and so iconic that a straight-up remake – whether with men or women – would be awful.
The trailer also features supernatural fighting proton packs, bucket loads of ectoplasm and a snippet of Slimer – the legendary ghost who resided in the Sedgewick Hotel before being captured by the original Ghostbusters. “So we wanted to make sure we give those nods – but make them our own, and give them their own original origin story”.
Despite a solid track record of hilarity from the actors involved, especially Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, the trailer just didn’t do it for me. We don’t get to see too much and what is on display is mostly Ghostbusters boilerplate: sliming, slapping, screaming, etc. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. Are you excited for the new Ghostbusters movie?
