Man killed after attacking 7-Eleven clerk with hatchet

A man with a concealed carry permit reportedly shot and killed a man who entered a convenience store and began attacking people with a hatchet Sunday, and police said they are grateful the regular customer was present when the attack occurred.

It happened in the area of S 112th St & 8th Ave S in the Boulevard Park area of Burien, Wash., sister station KING-TV in Seattle reports. The masked man swung the hatchet and struck the customer and also one of the store clerks, cutting his stomach, before the customer, 60, drew his pistol and shot the masked man in the stomach, killing him.

The customer pulled out his pistol and shot the man. King County Medics responded and attempted to resuscitate the suspect but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man didn’t say anything before swinging the hatchet at the customer and then the clerk who was behind the counter.

“Fortunately, because of this customer with his weapon, this could have been a lot worse”, said King. The Good Samaritan had been sitting in the store, drinking his coffee. West said ultimately the case will be forwarded to the prosecutors office for evaluation but the initial stages of this investigation show no wrongdoing. The clerk said that the masked man was silent throughout the entire attack.
