Microsoft Announces Cross-Platform Play on Xbox One
As well as Xbox One support for MonoGame – an open source development solution – Charla has confirmed that cross-network play is now rolling out, with Microsoft assisting developers in getting the functionality going. This is about to change.

Does this mean the developer is eyeing cross-play between the PS4, Xbox One, and PC simultaneously or is Rocket League simply expanding to additional platforms such as the Mac? Gamers shouldn’t expect Call of Duty to let Xbox players challenge their PlayStation counterparts or vice versa anytime soon, but if the initial move proves viable, it could be a much more common occurrence. The exec then spoke of Microsoft’s strategy to focus less on platform on more on providing games across many platforms – including PC and Xbox – via its new Universal Windows Application standard.

Developers will have to enable support, and it may be limited to specific multiplayer titles.
“To say that the team here at Psyonix is both honored and excited to have Rocket League as the first cross-network game is a massive understatement, Pysonix wrote”.
Not allowing cross-network play with users playing on other platforms, not counting Windows 10 games using Xbox Live, has always been one of the biggest issues Xbox One fans have had to deal with since the console’s release.

The first game to support Cross-Network Play will be Rocket League – although, at first, only with regular PC and Xbox One owners.
