Broncos’ trade for Mark Sanchez the ‘first step’ in John Elway’s process
The Broncos will send a conditional 2017 pick to the Eagles.

Sanchez has started 10 games (going 4-6) for the Eagles over the last two seasons after spending his first five seasons with the Jets. “He writes, “…the Broncos have in Sanchez an experienced signal-caller with 72 regular-season starts under his belt along with six starts in the postseason.
Following completion of the trade, Broncos general manager John Elway issued a tweet that seemed to suggest that another move for a quarterback will be coming.
Sanchez is an eighth-year player who spent his first seven seasons with the New York Jets (2009-13) and Philadelphia (2014-15).
The Broncos lost both of their quarterbacks from last year’s Super Bowl champions when future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning announced his retirement and Brock Osweiler signed as a free agent with the Houston Texans.
The Broncos had hoped to hand things over to Osweiler, Manning’s longtime apprentice.
It may be too early to already peg Sanchez as the guy who will even be competing as a starter for the Denver Broncos.
Amid the speculation of free agents, possible trade acquisitions and college quarterbacks available in next month’s draft, Emmanuel Sanders joked on Twitter that he could be catching heaters from Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico next season.
The Broncos knew they’d lose several key members of their team after beating the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, although Osweiler’s price tag took may by surprise.
It was pretty obvious the Eagles were moving on from Sanchez because they re-signed Sam Bradford and then brought in Chase Daniel to be the backup quarterback. But behind game MVP Von Miller, who received the Broncos’ franchise tag, Denver should be in position to remain among the league’s elite defenses in 2016. After colliding with the rear end of one of his offensive lineman, Sanchez fumbled the football and it was returned 31 yards for a touchdown by New England’s Steven Gregory. “With the level of success we’ve been able to have over the last few years, we haven’t had consistent play at the quarterback position”. The Birds were expected to release Sanchez, but they able to get a draft pick for him.
