Father of murdered 9-year-old Chicago boy charged with triple shooting

Hours after a judge ordered Tyshawn Lee’s alleged killer held without bail Tuesday, the father of the slain 9-year-old allegedly shot three people on Chicago’s South Side, according to police.

Now, Stokes is facing three felony counts of aggravated battery and one felony count of unlawful use/possession of a weapon, and will appear in court on Monday.

The shooting happened on the same day prosecutors detailed how 22-year-old Dwright Boone-Doty bragged to a fellow inmate about shooting Stokes’ son in November.

The boy was one of 400 homicide victims in Chicago previous year, but the fourth-grader’s death shocked the city because, according to police, he was killed because of his father’s gang affiliation.

Stokes is accused of wounding a woman and two men.

The shooting occurred roughly a half mile from where his son, Tyshawn Lee, was lured into an alley and shot in what police have called a “hateful act of treachery”.

In an interview after his son’s murder, Stokes said he believed his son was targeted, but denied that any sort of retaliation played a role in the killing. The men were treated at a hospital and released. “Despite this, he continued to engage in the same gang activity that started this initial cycle of violence”.

He said he had wanted to torture the boy first, and was tempted to return to the playground to ‘shoot it up, ‘ killing the other children there.

Police say Tracy and Stokes were in rival street gangs – the Black P Stones and the Gangster Disciples, respectively.

Law enforcement sources told the Tribune that the woman injured on March 8 was Morgan’s girlfriend.

Boone-Doty is believed to be the only shooter, but police suspect that Morgan was also involved in the crime.

The gang feud had escalated significantly five days earlier when Corey Morgan’s brother Tracey, who was also a reputed Bang Bang Gang/Terror Dome member, was fatally shot and the mother was wounded. He is charged in last week’s shooting of three people at 79th and Ashland.
