Aitor Karanka turned away as he arrived for training at Middlesbrough
His position was thrown into serious doubt at the weekend when the promotion hopefuls disclosed he would not be in charge for Sunday’s fixture at Charlton Athletic, which they lost 2-0.

Each manager has brought in pointless players that Middlesbrough fans certainly wish to forget.
The statement said: “Middlesbrough Football Club can confirm that Aitor Karanka did not take training on Saturday morning”.
According to Sky Sports, Karanka had held a team meeting with his players but then stormed out following an argument, where he allegedly stated that he would be resigning.
In a heated exchange, the 42-year-old is believed to have questioned the team’s desire to reach the Premier League following a 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Rotherham on Tuesday.
It is understood this is not the first time Karanka has had an altercation with his players this season, having already clashed with wingers Albert Adomah and Stewart Downing.
Karanka was thought to be considering his future at the Championship club.
Boro remain in second in the table despite the Charlton defeat, which meant they had won just three of their last 11 games and taken 12 points from a possible 30.

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka is set to stay on at the Riverside after showdown talks. His solo run from just inside the box was unchallenged and led him to try his luck from 20 yards, with a shot that went well over the bar.
