Mahila Congress activists protest against Sushma Swaraj

Beleaguered Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were also part of the strategy meetings held at the residences of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah on Sunday.

As per convention, the state subjects are not discussed in the Parliament.

Making it evident that there will be no resignations, the meeting discussed how to counter the opposition attack in Parliament during the session beginning on Tuesday and harmonising of the response of the government and the party on these issues, sources said.

Both the leaders are being targeted by the Opposition but the BJP is firmly backing the two Chief Ministers and has planned a strong counter offensive against the Congress, which is leading the onslaught. The BJP is also planning to focus on the scams occurred during successive Congress-led regimes. Party leader in the Rajya Sabha, Sanjay Raut, expressed happiness over Modi’s decision, saying it would help the alliance chalk out a collective strategy to ward off the Opposition challenge. External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, finance minister Arun Jaitley and information and technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad were among those who met Shah. On one hand, they’re looking for resignation of our leaders on the idea of Lalit Modi’s feedback, however has no reply to his costs towards Priyanka Gandhi, her husband Robert Vadra and an alleged deal Sonia Gandhi’s sister. The meeting at Mr Shah’s Delhi home was also attended by key party leaders from Rajasthan, sources told NDTV. But now, there is a U-turn on all these issues.

Terming the government as “thick skinned”, Azad said that this is the first time after Independence where government has not taken any action despite the fact that ministers and chief ministers are involved in cases and agitation is going on all over the country against it.

“We hope to push through the GST Bill and Real Estate Bill in the monsoon session but the Land Acquisition Bill is likely to come in the Winter Session”, said a source familiar with the government’s Parliament strategy.
