Vikings re-sign free agents Ellison, Sherels

The Vikings are bringing back Terence Newman on a one-year deal. Next season will be his eighth playing for Vikings coach Mike Zimmer. He had a return for a touchdown against the Chicago Bears last season at Soldier Field, a 65-yarder that helped Minnesota win a one-score game. He was originally the fifth overall selection in the 2003 draft by the Cowboys and started all 16 games his rookie season, registering 76 tackles, four interceptions, one sack, 20 passes defensed and one fumble recovery. If he wants to start again this year, he’s going to have to once again hold off the challenge of Trae Waynes, who looked pretty good given an increased opportunity near the end of last season.

Ellison’s return to the Vikings will be met with approval by fans who love their no-nonsense lunch-pail hard-working blue-collar Jim Kleinsasser-ian players. “He’s ahead of schedule in terms of flexibility and all his measurements”.

In a Facebook post published last week, Riki Ellison said his son would not re-sign with the Vikings but quickly took it down.

Riki Ellison has no future as an National Football League insider. The Vikings announced the move on Tuesday.

The contract is expected to be for one year, $3 million, according to USA Today. A source said had he not reached a deal with the Vikings, he would have visited Carolina and that Tampa Bay also had a strong interest.
