Lafayette shooting: Teacher who shielded friend from gunman hailed as hero by

Jindal lauded law enforcement who he said “ran in the direction of the shots fired” the minute they heard the commotion. He said that the teacher were out to enjoy a movie prior to school starting in a few weeks and that one of the teachers threw herself in front of the other teacher in an effort to shield them.

Gov. Bobby Jindal thanked the first responders of Lafayette after a shooting at the Grand 16 Theatre left three dead, including the shooter, and seven injured.

He said: “If she hadn’t done that… that bullet, she believed it would have hit her in the head”.

Calling the shooting an “awful, senseless, needless tragedy”, Jindal described “pools of blood” inside the theater, saying that the theater was typical of others, but with “this horrific violence” at the center. “Talking to state police colonel about shooting in Lafayette”.

Victims’ ages range from late teens to early 60s, police said. “The best thing anybody can do right now is to think about them, pray for them, shower them with your love is the most important thing we will get through this”, Jindal added.

Sgt. Brooks David of the Louisiana State Police described the alleged shooter in the incident at the Grand Theatre as a white male, about 58, who entered the theater by himself. Jindal offered his condolences to family members of the victims.

Jindal also said that the suspected killer, John Russell Houser, was likely “slow and methodical” in the slaughter.
