Trump marches on despite OH loss

Clinton’s victories in Ohio, Florida and IL were blows to rival Bernie Sanders and bolstered her argument that she’s the best Democratic candidate to take on the eventual Republican nominee in the general election.

With her wins, Clinton put herself in a commanding position to become the first woman in USA history to win a major party nomination.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton acknowledges the crowd during an election night event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. on Tuesday night. Scalia was part of a five-member conservative majority on the nine-member court. So it was for Marco Rubio, who lost his own state, Florida, to Donald Trump on Tuesday night in the Republican primary.

Second, Trump uses new media to take advantage of our polarized nation. He has seized on Americans’ anger with Washington politicians, discomfort with immigration and fears of terrorism, attracting voters with his blunt talk and promise to make America “great again”.

By capturing Florida, Mr Trump won all 99 of the state’s delegates, giving him a huge lift in his drive to the nomination.

The 69-year-old Trump was clinging to a narrow lead in Missouri with almost all of the votes counted, but was denied a clean sweep by Ohio Governor John Kasich, who carried his home state, a key general election battleground. On Tuesday, both parties will have primaries in Arizona and Utah, and Democrats will vote in Idaho.

It takes 1,237 delegates to win the GOP nomination. Rubio spoke over boos from the audience as he congratulated Trump.

After Tuesday’s victories, Trump needs to win about 54 percent of the roughly 1,100 delegates still up for grabs. Kasich chose the Rust Belt as Cruz chose the South, staking his campaign on nearly an entirely different terrain and sending them on wildly different routes to the GOP nomination.

“If Cruz can run 50-50 with Trump, he will emerge from this as the clear alternative”, Moore says. If neither can remove the other from the race, Trump could clinch the nod before the convention in Kasich’s Cleveland. Cruz and Kasich would need to raise quick campaign cash to stay in the race. Meanwhile Illinois offers 156 delegates, OH 143 and North Carolina 107.

With Tuesday’s primary win the number of Clinton’s delegates rose to 1,561 (467 of them super delegates), versus Sanders’ 800 (26 of them super delegates).

Sanders remained locked in close races with Clinton in IL and Missouri, which could add to the Vermont senator’s list of victories but would only marginally decrease his significant delegate deficit to Clinton.

This is going to take a while – for Republicans because of math and for Democrats because of message. She said that by the end of the night she would have two million more votes than Sanders, and hold a lead of more than 300 in the delegate count. The Associated Press did not call either race.

OH governor John Kasich was fighting for his political life in his home state, and won.

“That’s what helped Kasich immensely in Ohio”, Kelley said. But his loss in OH kept hope alive for mainstream Republicans dismayed by his candidacy and suggesting the real estate mogul can still be stopped in a convention fight. Rubio announced following Florida’s results that he has dropped out of the race.

Despite concerns from party leaders, Republican voters continue to back Trump’s most controversial proposals, with two-thirds of those who participated in GOP primaries Tuesday saying they support temporarily banning Muslims from the United States.
