While drivers across the country pay $1.93 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline on average, Iowa drivers are shelling out more. The average is now $1.68 a gallon, and it is expected to go higher. It was $1.819 a week ago and $1.703 a month ago.

According to GasBuddy’s Fuel Price Outlook 2016 report, the national average price is expected to peak at around $2.63 in May, then range from $2.43 to $2.48 through the summer.

AAA says gasoline prices are on the rise due to a decline in gasoline supplies, relatively strong demand and continued refinery maintenance.

Last summer, the average price here peaked at $2.82 in June, then fell to $2.44 by the end of August. “Prices will likely rise another 20-30 cents by Memorial Day weekend, but fortunately should remain well below year-ago levels”.

The lowest price in the Harrisburg area today is $1.89 at Costco in Lower Paxton Township, Citgo at North Second and Verbeke streets in Harrisburg, Sam’s Club in Swatara Township and the Exxon on Eisnenhower Boulevard at Lindle Road, Swatara Township. It is selling for $1.76 at the Marathon at US 41 and Crystal Drive in south Fort Myers, the Costco at Gulf Coast Town Center and the Shell at Metro Parkway and Crystal Drive.
