He was set to perform his show Sinatra Sings Sinatra at Peabody Auditorium on Wednesday night, but became ill in the afternoon and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center.
His death was announced by his family members, who revealed that his cause of death was a cardiac arrest he suffered during a tour in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Wednesday.
He was scheduled to perform next on March 17 at the Mahaffey Theater in St Petersburg, Florida, and then on May 19 at the Adler Theater in Davenport, Iowa.
A year ago he performed the national anthem at Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees games in celebration of the centennial of his father’s birth. He was released unharmed after two days when a ransom of $240,000 was paid. More albums, movies and television appearances followed – including 1969’s Frank Sinatra Jr.
“Since my father’s death, a lot of people have made it clear that they’re not ready to give up the music”, Sinatra Jr. said in the 2002 AP interview.
Frank Sinatra Senior died of a heart attack in 1998, aged 82.
He never had a hit like his sister Nancy Sinatra but he did keep appearing and performing some of his own original music and his father’s songs in Las Vegas and elsewhere. ‘For me, it’s a big fat gift.

Keenan was labelled as being the mastermind behind the kidnapping, and he was given a life sentence, plus 75 years. He had other tour dates booked for May, September and October in the Midwest and East Coast.
