Ross County authorities have made it official – Jason McCrary has been indicted for murder.

The indictment also states he used a gun during the murder and he was a repeat violent offender who had previously been convicted aggravated robbery.

At first it appeared there could be a connection to the disappearances of two Scioto County women, but after Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware traveled to Chillicothe and met with officials there, he reported that at this time there appears to be no connection.

The case has sparked talk of a serial killer but authorities have not said if McCrary was a suspect in the other cases. Some had turned to prostitution.

Tiffany Sayre, 26, was the latest to be found dead; her body was discovered wrapped in a sheet June 20 in a culvert along Cave Road in Highland County.

McCrary is charged only with the death of Claytor.

A southern Ohio county hit hard by the state’s heroin epidemic has received a $100,000 grant to fight the problem.

“At this point, there’s no reason to believe that he’s involved in any of the other missing or deceased women, but we haven’t ruled it out”, said Schmidt.

Investigators were able to verify through witness testimony and a gas station surveillance video that McCrary was in the vehicle in the early morning hours of May 29th, said Schmidt.

“I anticipate a substantial increase in his bond from what it is right now”, said Schmidt.

Claytor’s family was not at the news conference. So I think that’s the message.
