Time not right for my return, says Vijay Mallya

The court issued the NBW on a petition filed by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited seeking prosecution of Mallya for defaulting on payments and cheating the company by issuing cheques that bounced.

For the first time Mallya spoke about the money laundering case and bad loans against him in an exclusive interview with Sunday Guardian. But I’m not sure (that) I’ll get a fair chance to present my side. Let media bosses not forget help, favours, accommodation that I have provided over several years which are documented. “Why am I being portrayed as a criminal now?” he said. Loan defaults are a business matter. He said the people need to understand that business, whether large or small, has risks involved.

Meanwhile, the Debt Recovery Tribunal has also barred Mallya from accessing the Rs 515 crore severance pay he is to receive from Diageo for stepping down as the chariman of the UB Group.

The liquor baron, who was once known for his love for glamour and an obscene display of wealth was a second generation businessman, and the owner of some of the most successful names in Indian business scenario. I am forced to go into hiding and that makes me sick. “I have the best intentions and I fear my words will be twisted like of others”.

In one application, it challenged a magistrate’s order granting anticipatory bail to Mallya and others in its case for recovering around Rs.32.68 crore service tax collected from the airline passengers in 2010-2011, but not deposited with the government. For two people, I don’t think that’s too much.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said that it was not as if Mallya had escaped or absconded but he was “allowed” to leave the country.

The court had also then issued NBWs against five senior executives of the airline, including Mallya.

According to PTI, the court issued the NBW in the case of alleged dishonour of a Rs 50 lakh cheque to GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a summons for the liquor baron, who is thought to be in Britain, to appear before investigators in Mumbai on March 18, the Press Trust of India reported.

However, none of them appeared. The police have been ordered to produce Mallya, who is now in the United Kingdom, in the court by April 13. Now Mr. Mallya has surprised us as he has issued the statement right after a non-bailable warrant has been issued against him by the Hyderabad Court.
