Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says he will vote for Texas Sen. Lindsey Graham appear on stage at the first round of the CNN Republican Presidential Debate in Simi Valley, California on September 16, 2015.
Cruz is about 230 delegates behind Trump and hopes to block him from winning the 1,237 delegates needed outright for the nomination by the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), left, and Sen. But on Thursday, Graham told CNN that not only is he supporting Cruz, he’s fundraising for him.
Romney also said in his statement Friday that he likes Kasich, who now trails both Trump and Cruz, but said “a vote for Gov. Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail”. Lindsey Graham has gone from making jokes about Ted Cruz’s death to endorsing the Texas Republican for president.
Cruz continued to paint Trump as taking an expedient view of immigration, accusing him of hardening his stance when he made a decision to run for president after bankrolling senators who sponsored the failed immigration bill.
December 2: “Ted Cruz’s foreign policy has been uneven and he has done more to allow ISIL to gain a foothold in Syria than any Senator other than Rand Paul”.
“I think his campaign is built on xenophobia, race baiting and religious bigotry”, he said, “and I think Senator Cruz is a conservative who I can support”. “I think bad things would happen, I really do”.
“I will vote for Senator Cruz and I encourage others to do so as well, so that we can have an open convention and nominate a Republican”, Romney concluded.
“There’s no good reason (for Kasich to stay in the race)”, Cruz said during a question-and-answer session with conservative TV and radio commentator Sean Hannity that was carried live on the Fox News Channel.
Cruz scoffed at the suggestion that the border is secure, pointing out that his young daughter could scale fences in place in no time.
