Liverpool are enjoying their best football of the season at the moment, having won three Premier League games in a row and scoring 18 times in their last six league games.

That, in itself, is a credit to the Saints – as it is no longer a surprise to see them competing in the top half of the Premier League. They have a really strong team, a lot of options and they’ve had two really good results against Manchester United in the Europa League. Southampton are ahead of the Reds on goal difference alone, enjoying a GD of +8 compared to the Merseysiders’ +6.

The Reds are in eighth place in the Premier League table and seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

“It was a must-win game for us against Stoke and it’s the same this weekend”.

Patrick Kluivert has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT that it is wonderful how well Ronald Koeman has got Southampton playing.

The combative 24-year-old returns against Liverpool on Sunday after serving a mammoth five-match ban for his latest red card, against West Ham last month.

As well as enjoying home advantage when the pair go head to head on Sunday, Southampton’s form is improving, and Koeman’s side put back-to-back defeats behind them to take a point against Sunderland before an impressive 2-1 away victory over Stoke City.

Roberto Firmino has pulled out of the Brazil squad with a hamstring injury and will be sidelined for Liverpool’s trip to Southampton.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman will recall Victor Wanyama and Jose Fonte for the visit of Liverpool, but will not have Charlie Austin or Jay Rodriguez available until after the worldwide break.

For all this talent and success through the season though, some players are bound to miss out and not get a run in the first team, meaning a move looks nearly inevitable.
