His death was announced by his family members, who revealed that his cause of death was a cardiac arrest he suffered during a tour in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Wednesday.
Career-wise, Sinatra Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps, pursuing and achieving his own successful career in music and eventually becoming a musical conductor and director for Sinatra.
In 1963 he was kidnapped at gunpoint from a hotel in Lake Tahoe.
After 3 days, 2 men collected $240,000 ransom which was paid by his father after the abductor set his son free. At the time of his death, Sinatra Jr. was doing a tour called “Sinatra Sings Sinatra – The Centennial Celebration”, which celebrated what would have been his father’s 100th birthday a year ago.
Frank Sinatra Sr, the Rat Pack star of the 1960s, died in 1998. “Our love to his family and friends”.
Nancy Sinatra – the sister of Frank Jr. – confirmed that her brother had passed away with a post on Facebook.
Tony Bennett wrote on Twitter: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Frank Sinatra Jr and send my sympathy to Tina and Nancy and the Sinatra family”.
“That honest to goodness kept him going, and I have said my philosophy – I’m a backyard philosopher, I guess – is that the dirtiest word in the English language is ‘retirement, ‘” Frank Jr. said.
Meanwhile Seth MacFarlane, who in the past has turned Frank Jr. into a character on his show Family Guy, described him as a “friend”.
Frank Sinatra is a name that will be remembered through the ages for his magical, enigmatic voice that cast a spell over everyone in the room. Sinatra Jr.is survived by his son, Michael. Singing his father’s old songs, he managed to gain quite a lot of fans and followers, but he also became well known for making his own new songs as well.
