Martial secures FA Cup replay for United

“The quality was missing in the final third of the pitch but to get a draw here, I’d like to think you’d win your home games in the FA Cup”.

The rearranged Premier League match was due to take place on Saturday April 23 but has been postponed as one of the two sides will be in FA Cup semi final action on that weekend.

Crystal Palace were last in the final in 1990, when they lost 1-0 to Man United in a Wembley replay after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

So the clubs are set for a replay at Upton Park, the last ever F.A. Cup game there before West Ham move to the Olympic stadium next year.

“To go 1-0 down and obviously everything is against you with previous results, then to show some fighting character and really push for the victor at the end, I think, hopefully does boost us”, Smalling said of the comeback against West Ham.

Anthony Martial scored a late equaliser to send Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter final clash against West Ham to a replay. However, with West Ham playing at home in the replay, they will feel even more confident.

France worldwide Payet, booked earlier for a trip on Lingard, could well have been cautioned, but was reprieved by referee Martin Atkinson and four minutes later struck the opening goal.

Just as things were looking good for West Ham, Anthony Martial stepped forward to turn a wonderful cross by Herrera into the goal to bring United back into the tie. “We haven’t quite done it yet but we live to fight another day”, Carrick told BT Sport.

Bilic said that the changing room was quiet after the match.

“We were behind”, Van Gaal said.

He added: “It was very doom and gloom but we knew that in two days we had to get our heads right for a very big game. It’s not about the opponent, it’s about West Ham and Upton Park, but Manchester United makes it a little bit special”.

Martial’s goal was controversial as it appeared that West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph had been impeded on the goal line by Bastian Schweinsteiger. I always felt we would get back in it but we just couldn’t get a victor. There is always discussion about the decisions of the referee.
