The Aedes aegypti mosquito is responsible for spreading Zika virus.
A new three-in-one laboratory test for Zika and a pair of other unsafe viruses has received emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration and will be distributed soon, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
People who contract the Zika virus usually have no symptoms, but there are some who have reported sustaining fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes.
In those regions, the Zika virus has said to be responsible for microcephaly, a birth defect that causes shrunken head and incomplete brain development.
Draining standing water, he says, could help fight the transmission of not only the zika virus.
Earlier this week, scientists reported more evidence supporting a link between the Zika virus and microcephaly.
According to the CDC’s latest stats, at least 258 Americans have contracted mosquito-borne Zika while traveling overseas, including 18 pregnant women. The virus can be transmitted by mosquito and by sexual contact, Cuomo said.
In January, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy directed Public Health Department to test for Zika virus.
Health minister Dr Kenneth Darroux said it is a locally transmitted case as the patient person has not recently travelled off the island. Travelers going to an affected area can further protect themselves by choosing lodging with air conditioning or screens to keep mosquitoes out and by staying indoors during daylight hours.
“The most important thing right now, is that if a woman is pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, she should really think about postponing a trip (to at risk areas) until after delivering the baby”, Brito said. Of the statewide cases, seven were still exhibiting symptoms as of today, the department said, adding that symptoms typically last between seven and 10 days.

Symptoms are mild so many people do not seek medical attention and many remain undiagnosed. Murphy noted there is no vaccine to prevent Zika infection, and no medicine to treat the virus.
