Sam Burgess: South Sydney forward injures neck

South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire is confident Sam Burgess will be fine despite being taken to hospital on Saturday.

Burgess was taking a hit-up just metres from the try-line, and ducked his head into three oncoming defenders. Immediately, Burgess dropped the ball and as he lay on the ground, concern for the code-hopping behemoth was obvious.

Take a look at the full incident in the video player above.

Burgess was injured in a legal tackle in the 58th minute and lay prone at the southern end of the iconic venue for an extended period as he was treated by medical personnel.

An eerie silence fell over the Sydney Cricket Ground and a concerned co-owner Russell Crowe was seen looking on from the stands.

“I’m looking forward to chatting to him later and seeing where he is at”.

“He obviously had a bit of tingling through one arm. Those sort of things are never nice but Sammy is in a pretty good head space from what I am told”.

“But as I’ve been told he’s in a pretty good frame of mind, so we’ll have to wait and see”.

“God willing it’s nothing serious my man @SamBurgess8”.

The sides traded tries in the first half through Souths’ Alex Johnston in the 13th minute and his fellow winger Dragons’ flyer Jason Nightingale in the 22nd minute for the only four pointers of the game. Hoping @SamBurgess8 is all good and nothing serious! “Please come through and be safe”.
