Iran says US continues animosity despite nuclear deal

The implementation of the landmark Iran nuclear deal in January along with the resumption of diplomatic ties after a five-year hiatus set the stage for the normalization of ties between the two countries, the British premier added. The accord opened doors for a number of large, Western-backed projects in the formerly isolated country.

The Leader said Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution liberated the nation of Washington’s deep-rooted grip, adding that Iranians proved that it is possible to stand up to the US.

According to Khamenei, the USA is now using “roundabout paths to prevent the Islamic Republic from achieving its targets”. “It is clear that behind all this are the United States who only declared about the lifting of sanctions, but lifted them on paper only.”, Khamenei said, as quoted by the IRINN news agency.

The Leader reiterated that the Iranian nation has no issues with the American people but the USA administration is the enemy of Iran.

“The US presidential candidates are vying with each other in inveighing against Iran…These are [proof of] enmity”, said the Leader.

Hours before Khamenei’s speech was broadcast, US President Obama released his annual message celebrating Nowruz for Iranian citizens.

“The U.S. Treasury… acts in such a way that big corporations, big institutions and big banks do not dare to come and deal with Iran”, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a televised address marking the Iranian new year.

“Now, for the first time in decades, there’s a chance for a different future”.

He said the USA still has “profound differences” with Iran, but the fact that the countries were talking regularly for the first time in decades could help solve them.

Elsewhere, Ayatollah Khamenei said there is no guarantee that President Barack Obama’s successor would “fulfill these minimum obligations”.

“For those of us in the United States, this day is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of hundreds of thousands of Iranian Americans, who have made their mark in business, public service, law, medicine, research, music, and more”, he said. His stance may pose a hard challenge to the plans pushed by the reformist president Hassan Rouhani, the architect of the nuclear deal.
