Domino’s Is Testing An Actual Pizza Delivery Robot
Using this military technology, combined with its own GPS tracking systems, the robot uses LIDAR, the same technology in self-driving cars, which one researcher has shown can be hacked. While the US market is getting the DXP, the Australian company has developed a robot that will deliver hot food as well as cold drinks. But previously they were decked out with bullet-proof armour, life-like soldier mannequins and artificial intelligence to allow them to roam a mock battlefield as an organised battalion.

It is battery powered and uses on-board sensors to avoid obstacles, with Domino’s saying it can deliver pizzas within a 20 kilometre radius of a store before returning to recharge.
Domino’s Group CEO and Managing Director, Don Meij said that autonomous vehicles were set to open up new opportunities and create an impetus for innovation for Domino’s globally and in Australia. Amazon has been testing delivery drones for a while, though the company hasn’t said whether or not the drones would be coming to Canada. The Domino’s Robotic Unit, or DRU, according to Forbes, was unveiled Thursday in Brisbane, and has already successfully completed a trial delivery. Getting pizza to customer’s as quick as possible, while still hot, with no distractions. The code, of course, is only given to the customers who initiated the order. If the test runs are successful, the company plans on rolling out its high-tech delivery drone to other countries, as well.

“DRU is cheeky and endearing and we are confident that one day he will become an integral part of the Domino’s family”, the chain’s New Zealand general manager Scott Bush said. “He’s a road to the future and one that we are very excited about exploring further”, Domino’s said in a release.
