The information was classified at the time that the emails were sent, McCullough said. Clinton leads her nearest Democratic competitor by about 40 percentage points, according to an average of recent polls by Real Clear Politics.

A government investigation has concluded that Hillary Clinton sent classified information through a personal email account while she served as Secretary of State, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

A spokesman for Hillary Clinton said Saturday that the former secretary of state will publicly testify before the House special committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks. “I can tell you what the facts are”, she said.

Hillary Clinton says she will testify this October before a public hearing of the House committee investigating the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. The paper has now removed the claim – which appeared in both the article’s headline and first sentence – that two inspectors general were seeking a “criminal” investigation into the handling of Clinton’s emails.

“This may encourage some of Clinton’s Republican opponents, who have unsuccessfully tried to get Clinton to relinquish her private email server for inspection, to renew their efforts”. But the paper significantly revised its story the next day to say the matter was referred to Justice to examine whether sensitive government information was mishandled in connection with Clinton’s account – but not necessarily by Clinton.

“I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email”, Clinton said at a news conference in March.

The private server is Clinton’s, and the thumb drive, containing 30,000 emails she turned over to the State Department, is in the possession of her attorney, David Kendall.

Questions were raised why she chose not to use government email if she wasn’t trying to skirt federal rules that require officials’ communications to be archived.

Republicans have criticised the handling of the attack.

In response to the State Department’s and intelligence community’s concerns about Clinton’s work emails, Clinton’s team wants to ensure that “appropriate procedures are followed as these emails are reviewed”, Merill said in his Friday statement, “while not unduly delaying the release of her emails”.
