New England Patriots’ Ryan Allen signs three-year contract extension
The move comes 10 days after the Patriots signed Stephen Gostkowski to a four-year deal worth $17.2 million, an extension that made him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.

Punter Ryan Allen’s agent Sean Stellato told Adam Schefter of ESPN that Allen signed a three-year extension with the Patriots. He would have been a restricted free agent after the 2015 season, and potentially an unrestricted free agent after the 2016 season. Allen is about to begin his third season with the Patriots.
Allen increased that average to 46.4 yards per punt in 2014 (6th-best in the AFC) and set a record for the longest punt in Super Bowl history with a 64-yard bomb in the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX win over the Seattle Seahawks.
After signing with the Patriots in 2013, Allen beat out incumbent starter Zoltan Mesko for the final punting position at the end of the preseason.
He lowered his touchbacks from 12 in his rookie season to 6 this past year.

Allen was the Ray Guy Award victor as college football’s top punter in 2011 and 2012, becoming the first player to earn the award in back-to-back seasons.
