Seahawks reportedly make huge contract offer to Russell Wilson

The Seahawks have offered quarterback Russell Wilson a contract offer worth $21 million per year, according to Pro Football Talk.

Wilson, Seattle’s third-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is slated to make $1.54 million this season.

“He’s gonna sign a huge contract, in the $20 million-plus range, I would guess”. Specifics of the contract haven’t been released, but the report says it would be over a 4-6 year period.

But at this point, it’s an issue of cash up front and guarantees, in addition to the debate over a yearly salary.

And so far, Wilson hasn’t taken it. Which suggests that he’s looking for more (and lends credence to the report that he wants to be the league’s highest-paid player).

However, there’s still a way to get there with a smaller total package that yield a much higher “new-money” analysis, given that Wilson is due to make only $1.5 million in 2015. ProFootballTalk.com reported Saturday that the Seahawks have offered Wilson a deal that averages close to $21 million per season with significant guaranteed money.

Oh it must be nice to be Russell Wilson because if the two sides can’t come to an agreement, Seattle has the option of placing a franchise tag on QB next year which means he would still get a super large payday … something like $20 million for one season.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there are a number of NFL analysts, general managers, and coaches that don’t think Russell Wilson is a top-tier quarterback.
