Apple Shows Off Updated iPad With Power of Larger Model

“The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a new Retina display with True Tone technology, four-speaker audio system, blazing fast A9X chip, 12-megapixel iSight camera, 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera, faster wireless, and support for Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard”.

Apple is taking a shot at Windows PCs with its new 9.7-inch iPad Pro tablet, calling it the “ultimate PC replacement”.

Apple has Windows users squarely in its sights with the new iPad Pro, said Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller during a launch event at the company’s Town Hall theater at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. Schiller said that Windows was designed for a world before the Internet, app stores, and social media. Like the larger iPad Pro, Apple is really pitching this smaller model as a tool for content creation, and being able to use a stylus for art and design is, naturally, a big part of that.

But it seems unlikely that Apple will manage to commandeer massive swaths of the Windows user base.

As Gillen pointed out, people with old PCs may not be in the market for an iPad anyway, since they likely already have some newer device that they’re using as well.

It is the ultimate upgrade for existing iPad users and replacement for PC users, ” Apple said in a statement released on Tuesday. The screens on the Windows hybrids can be detached and turned into tablets. “They still have that old PC for the times when you really need to have that functionality of a full screen, a keyboard and mouse dexterity, that sort of thing”. It is also easier for users to multitask and switch between applications on PCs.

“That’s more than an [Microsoft] Xbox 360, in a device you hold in your hand”, Schiller says. Apple’s financial results over the past year have shown continually shrinking iPad sales.

Keeping with the theme of going smaller with its devices, Apple on Monday drew open the curtains on a smaller, sleeker version of its behemoth 12.9-inch display iPad Pro. The company sold 16.1 million of the devices in the quarter, a 25 percent decline from the holiday quarter a year earlier. For $650, you can get a pretty good Windows laptop.
