Tyler Perry and Fox are teaming up to bring “Passion Live”, a live musical production of Jesus’ crucifixion, to the small screen on Palm Sunday in New Orleans.
The biblical live musical, hosted and narrated by Tyler Perry, will have a modern twist, according to the Cuban-American artist.
“Very, very much excited ’cause if it goes right, I think it will be a pretty powerful story to be told, and I think the way it’s being told will be pretty compelling to a much larger demographic”, said Chris Daughtry, who plays Judas.

Editor’s note: Billboard is an affiliate company of one of The Passion’s co-producers, Dick Clark Productions. Spanning across the city of New Orleans, a live procession with hundreds of people who drove across the country to carry a large cross will be a huge part of the show, which is expected to have 25,000 to 30,000 live audience-goers on site. With famous songs originally performed by Whitney Houston, Katy Perry and Celine Dion, Anders says viewers will see the music in a whole new light. “It’s so emotional just to read the script and hear the songs”, said Yearwood. “It’s really exciting to see it done this way because it’s so different from anything else that’s been done on television”.
“To be a part of one of the greatest stories of all time is something that really appealed to me”, Seal said.
All of the songs were ARRANGED specifically for the album and live event by Adam Anders -CEO/Founder of Deep Well Records and Executive Producer and Executive Music Producer of THE PASSION – and Peer Åström, Music Producer for the event.
Canela and Daughtry pair up for “Demons” in the scene in which Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss. “I love the idea of it being told in a modern, updated way so that not only people who know it and are believers but people from all walks of life can get it, understand it, appreciate it and have love for it”.
