It’s still early days for I, Tonya, which does not yet have a director attached and is now in the process of securing financing.

She was also forced to withdraw from the championship as part of the plea bargain, and the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) banned her for life. However, the announcement comes on the heels of American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson voicing her desire to take on the role.

According to Deadline, she was training for the 1994 Winter Olympics, when her fellow American skater, Nancy Kerrigan, was attacked a month before the competition.

The movie, with a screenplay by Kate & Leopold writer Steven Rogers, will document the tumultuous life of the fallen ice princess. I’m really into the hair thing. She rose to prominence at 21 years old, winning the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and nabbing second in the World Championships. Of course, Harding is mostly known for the infamy that occurred when her husband, Jeff Gillooly, and a couple of hired thugs tried to incapacitate Kerrigan by breaking her leg. They merely bruised Kerrigan, got caught, and Gillooly turned against his wife as he tried to stay out of jail. Shane Stant, the hitman, attacked Kerrigan when she stepped out of the arena where she was practicing in Detroit. She pleaded guilty in March 1994 to conspiring to hinder prosecution and was let off with three years’ probation.

During this time, both Kerrigan and Harding were selected for the 1994 Olympic team; a recovered Kerrigan triumphing at the event and walking away with the silver medal, while a distracted and distressed Harding finished eighth. She has appeared in several films recently including The Big Short, Z for Zachariah, and Focus.
