World mourns for Brussels with cartoons and open doors

The French newspaper Le Monde have today unveiled a poignant cartoon in the wake of the deadly Paris and Brussels attacks. While the authorities were coping with this, another blast struck a metro station near the European Union building in the capital city and killed 10 people. A crying person draped in a French flag hugs a crying person with a Belgian flag, suggesting solidarity between the two countries. Lore has it that fries originated in Belgium, but it’s an ongoing dispute between France and Belgium.

On Tuesday, March 22, terror attacks rocked Brussels, Belgium, one of Europe’s most lovely capitals and the hub of the European Union.

To expand their reach beyond Brussels, Twitter users began to use the hashtag #prayforpeace.

With many invoking Herge’s cub reporter – who always got the better of the baddies in the end – one Twitter user put words into the boy hero’s mouth: “Let’s be strong, together and humane faced with these crazies”.

In a further act of solidarity, the Eiffel Tower will show the colours of the Belgium flag tonight.
