Brussels Terrrorist Attacks: 5 Latest Developments

A series of apparently coordinated explosions ripped through Brussels airport and a city metro station Tuesday, killing at least 34 people in the latest attacks to target Europe. At least 20 died at the subway station and 14 at the airport; 106 are reported injured at the subway station and 92 at the airport. Hours later, a channel on the encrypted messaging app Telegram that is maintained by ISIS described the operation. CCTV footage from a 2011 bombing in Moscow, Russia is incorrectly being shared as footage from Tuesday’s deadly terrorist attack in Brussels. An obvious question to this devastating news is wondering who was behind the Brussels attack.

In December, investigators found Abdeslam’s fingerprint as well as three belts that could be used to carry explosives during a search of an apartment in the Schaerbeek neighborhood of Brussels. “Five or 10 seconds later there was a major, major, major blast in close vicinity”. All told, more than 180 people were injured at both the airport and the subway station.

President Barack Obama condemned the attacks and pledged support for Belgium during a press conference in Havana, where he is taking part in a historic meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro.

Passengers were led onto the tarmac and the crisis center urged people not to come to the airport.

Belgian police have released the following security camera capture of three suspects in today’s bombing at Zaventem airport in Brussels. Some officials are calling the attacks an act of war.

Officials of the European Commission have voiced concerns over Tuesday’s explosions in Brussels.

All public transport in Brussels was shut down, as it was in London during 2005 Islamist militant attacks there that killed 52.
