Former New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper is facing a federal prison term of 15 to 20 years. Additionally, the judge warned Sharper that she may hand down a sentence outside of the sentencing guidelines.

That original deal called for Sharper to register as a sex offender and live under restrictive parole conditions in Arizona for the rest of his life after completing his federal prison sentence.

The new terms of a plea agreement were revealed this morning for the convicted rapist in New Orleans’ federal court. Sharper also pleaded guilty to charges in Nevada and Arizona, and pleaded no contest in California.

Sharper, shackled and in orange prison garb, said little other than to answer basic, yes-or-no questions from Milazzo about whether he understood the implications of his plea deal. Milazzo accepted a new guilty plea from the former football star on Tuesday. Sharper’s co-defendants, who have pleaded not guilty, are scheduled for trial May 12 in Milazzo’s federal courtroom. And that time could actually get cut shorter if he follows through on an agreement to testify against two of his alleged accomplices Brandon Licciardi and Erik Nunez.

Those interviews were to come after Sharper’s guilty plea last June in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court to two counts of forcible rape and a charge of simple rape, stemming from two separate incidents involving three women in August and September 2013.

Sharper was selected All-Pro six times and chosen for the Pro Bowl five times during a career that included stints with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.

He ended a 14-year career in 2011.
