The France-based church leader also said the missionaries will still continuing working, as expected, to preach the gospel.

Chad Wells said they were able to speak to their son, who was in the hospital, and they’re optimistic he will make a full recovery.

Chad Wells says his 19-year-old son, Mason Wells, was feet away from Tuesday’s blast, suffering severe burns and a severed Achilles tendon.

His father, Chad Wells, added, “I think the Boston experience helped him to stay calm”.

“They were in line for about two minutes when everything went orange and he blacked out”.

“We’d like to thank those who’ve been by their side in helping them feel better”, he said in the video. He has been treated for 2nd degree burns to his hands, face, and head, and surgery was just completed for shrapnel injuries to his legs.

The family of Joseph Empey has released a statement saying their son has also undergone surgery for shrapnel injuries to his legs.

“We are saddened by today’s attacks and extend our honest condolences to the victims and families of those impacted”, Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James said in a statement.

He was at the airport with 66-year-old Richard Norby and 19-year-old Mason Wells when they were wounded by an explosion. The three were in the proximity of the explosion and were hospitalized.

It is unclear the nature or extent of the missionaries’ injuries.

His father said he woke up to the latest news on the TV before calling his son’s mission president in France and found out his son was injured but alive.

A Mormon Church official in Brussels said all three men were hospitalized.

Two explosions occurred at the city’s main worldwide airport and a third happened at a subway station in the middle of the city, according to The New York Times.

Around 35 people were killed in the two blasts that rocked the airport and a third blast at a metro station near the European Union’s headquarters.

Three Utah missionaries and one French sister missionary were injured during the attacks.

The event was the target of a terror attack that killed three and wounded scores more. Gov. Gary Herbert praised the Utah natives as “people of faith who have forsaken everything – family, friends, school and careers – in order to share a message of hope and love with the world”.

“To the Norby, Empey and Wells families, please know that the state of Utah is united in prayer at this time for the health and well-being of your missionaries”.

An Islamic State bombing in Brussels on March 22 has left more than 30 people dead and injured more than 100, including a US service member and four members of his family.
