Bangladesh confirms first case of Zika virus

The 43-year-old man, who had made a business trip to Brazil between February 17 and March 9, tested positive at 6 a.m. local time on Monday for the mosquito-borne virus, the KCDC said via email.

The hospital is said to have reached its latest decision after consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) and as the patient is now awaiting natural recovery without the need for specific treatment.

Korean government officials and representatives from the ruling Saenuri Party met at the National Assembly on Wednesday to discuss preventative measures against a Zika virus outbreak.

Ingrid Garrison, state public health veterinarian for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, compared the situation to other mosquito illnesses.

The state Department of Health has confirmed a second imported case of Zika in Hawaii this year.

The CDC recommends pregnant women not travel to Cuba. In rare cases, it also may be transmitted sexually in semen.

Zika is caused by the Zika virus and spread by mosquitoes. She also says to avoid having any shallow standing bodies of water, so any dishes or bowls with water in them should be emptied out, and then scrubbed to eliminate possible mosquito eggs.

Vector control on Kauai is searching the person’s property, spraying areas if needed, like they did on Hawaii Island, and investigating areas the person visited on Kauai to see if others may be infected or if there are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The most common symptoms of Zika virus are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes).

When women get rubella while pregnant, however, there can be devastating consequences for the fetus, including deafness, heart defects and even microcephaly – the brain abnormality that’s raised such alarm about Zika.

World Health Organization experts told reporters that 6,480 cases of babies born with unusually small heads have been reported alone in northeast Brazil, which is at the centre of the outbreak.
