“Clearly, this is an extremely harrowing time for Paige’s family and friends”.

Speaking at the scene, Detective Superintendent Duncan Sloan said police would look at “all possible motives” for the murder.

He continued: “From what we are finding out from friends, family and teachers, Paige was a really warm, kind individual and had a real set course on where she wanted to take her life”.

On Saturday morning she left a friend’s house in Angus Street in the Whitecrook area of Clydebank and walked her usual route through Wood Quadrant and went to Delicious Deli on Fleming Avenue.

“We can confirm that Paige had not been enrolled as a pupil at any secondary school in East Dunbartonshire”.

Police said they were trying to piece together her movements between Saturday morning and the discovery of the body.

Fundraising pages set up in Paige’s memory have raised nearly £10,000 in 12 hours.

“All the money raised is to help Pamela, her mum, and Andrew, her step-dad, with any funeral arrangements and anything else to ease the pain that they are going through at this time”.

It is believed Paige moved to Clydebank with her family around seven years ago.

She wrote: “Today we found out that my best friend has sadly passed away”.

Police confirmed the body as that of the missing teenager.

He added: “Paige was a young, friendly girl”.

“The police have confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched by Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team and specialist officers are providing support to Paige’s family at this hard time”. We have family liaison officers giving them whatever support they can.

The news of the body find amid the search for Paige was picked up by Britain’s entire media as the news went viral.

The slim 4ft 8ins schoolgirl had long, dark hair and was wearing a dark jacket, jeans and white Nike trainers when she went missing, Sloan said.

It is thought she then made her way to catch a bus to travel to Street Image hairdressers in Kirkintilloch, around 12 miles away, where she had a Saturday job.

“I am also particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area where she was found off Great Western Road on Monday lunchtime”.
