Peter Serafinowicz Cast In Title Role For Amazon Series

British comedian and actor Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as the lead in Amazon’s The Tick pilot, based on Ben Edlund’s comic book character. Wally Pfister, the cinematographer for the Dark Knight trilogy, will be directing the pilot, so expect this silly superhero world to look surprisingly respectable.

One of the greatest things about the oh-so short-lived Fox adaptation of The Tick was Patrick Warburton’s iconic turn in the title role.

The Tick was created by Edlund in 1986 as a mascot for New England Comics and eventually got his own animated series in 1994.

Serafinowicz was recently seen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Denarian Saal, and also appeared in 2004’s Shaun of the Dead.

Though the 2001 attempt to bring The Tick to life was a colossal failure that only lasted nine glorious episodes on Fox, the series has grown to become a cult favorite over the past decade or so.

British actor Peter Serafinowicz attends the “Spy” New York Premiere. He doesn’t have quite the same memorably voice as Warburton but his pipes are still impressive, he provided all the spoken dialogue for Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace in case you didn’t know. The cast will also include Valorie Curry (House of Lies, Veronica Mars) who will play Arthur’s sister, Dot.

The plot for the pilot will focus on Serafinowicz’s Tick as the superhero recovers from memory loss and then ends up teaming up with his sidekick Arthur – who will be played by Griffin Newman – to fight villains.
