Consumers will be pleased by the extra room, the reconfigured engine, and sleek new design of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, a auto that is sure to turn heads as it drives down the street.

Mazda has managed to reduce the size of the auto slightly and the 2016 model weighs 150 pounds less than its predecessor. With its 45mm shorter overhangs, Mazda designers have done wonders with their KODO design philosophy.

Announcing the launch, Mazda’s North American vehicle line manager Rod McLaughlin said that Miata fans will simply love the new model. Thom Bryant, a former Road & Track editor, was present for the first ride, and compiled a book entitled, “Mazda MX-5 Miata, Twenty Five Years” recently. The driver seat has been lowered by 20 mm and hood height has been reduced by 28mm. Steering wheel radius has been reduced by 2mm. The latest edition to the MX-5 lineup is one that delivers performance, comfort, and luxury in one shot, whereas previous editions left drivers feeling that they had been cheated out of something that they could have otherwise had in a better designed auto.

McLaughlin stated that Mazda wanted to add a bit more of aggressiveness and focus on its timeless design, a design that will last for years. We’re at 940,000 sales globally. It will also feature a six-speed manual transmission, although you can spring for the automatic if you don’t care for that sort of thing.

Pricing starts at $24,915 plus $820 destination charges for the base Sport trim and goes all the way to the $30,065 Grand Touring. The Club model has been priced at $28,600. In Miata Grand Touring, Mazda has added smart keyless entry, black leather interiors, blind spot warnings, rain sensing wipers and many other additional features.

All MX-5 Miata trims come with a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV engine, which is substantially bigger than the 1.5-liter engine on the Japanese-spec MX5.

Third generation Miata had 167 horsepower with 7,000 rpm.
