Mitch McConnell Says He Encouraged Trump to ‘Condemn’ Campaign Event Violence

Donald Trump has the loudest voice in politics right now, but for those listening, the now-infamous Chicago rally for the Republican frontrunner delivered another, more hopeful message.

Bernie Sanders said Sunday that he’s never encouraged his supporters to disrupt rallies, and that the anger and violence GOP front-runner Donald Trump incites is “not good for the country”.

McConnell told reporters that he had a conversation with the candidate this morning, the first time the two men spoke since December.

He and his rival Hillary Clinton also accused Mr Trump of encouraging supporters to beat up protesters and then offering to pay their legal costs.

The Trump protester was charged with assault.

Sanders pushed back, insisting that his campaign had nothing to do with the Chicago protests, and saying in a statement on Saturday, “As is the case virtually every day, Donald Trump is showing the American people that he is a pathological liar”.

Trump later said he was looking into paying for McGraw’s legal fees. By protesting, the coalition highlighted how Trump’s risky rhetoric hurts them, their families, and their communities. “Maybe that’s why I wouldn’t do it”.

“He is building a toxic environment”, Gov. John Kasich from OH said referring to Trump.

On Tuesday Republicans and Democrats vote in primaries in states including Florida and Ohio.

A number of Trump rallies have been interrupted by protesters before. Over the weekend, Trump ducked behind Secret Service agents as a protester ran toward the stage in Dayton, Ohio. Drum concludes that Trump will ultimately use the backlash he has received to further energize his supporters.

What I find ironic is the liberal media blames Trump for this violence and not the demonstrators.

Trump has faced protesters at rallies for some time now, but tensions have risen since a rally in Chicago last week that Trump shut down out of safety concerns. It’s just the latest in a spate of instances at Trump rallies. In the Republican race, despite recent backlash, Trump still maintains a twelve-point lead over Cruz.

“We have protesters [that are] so mean”, Trump told a crowd in Bloomington, Illinois on Sunday, marking his return to the state less than 48 hours after he was forced to cancel an event in Chicago that was marred by violence and bloodshed.
