Milwaukee residents were concerned on Saturday when many claimed to have spotted a “lion-like animal” and police closed several streets while they searched, according to NBC News.

Police in Milwaukee continue to investigate possible lion sightings throughout the city. Police were called to the area at about 7:15 Saturday night. Now it’s believed the lion is a lioness because witnesses reported seeing a cub roaming the streets next to the large cat.

Officers, armed with guns, looked for the animal near a creek.

And a white pit bull was shot in the foot after someone mistook it for the lion.

The shooting followed a Monday telephone call to police from a woman who reported seeing a lion in her neighborhood. Since then, dozens of reported sightings have come in, but police searches have failed to turn up anything.
