Jeep revives Trailhawk Grand Cherokee for 2017

Jeep, a brand whose sales have soared over the past five years, will return to the New York International Auto Show to unveil two new versions of the model that kicked off its renaissance – the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The idea was to deliver a more rugged appearance, with functional features that resulted in an increased level of off-road 4×4 capability. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee Summit’s 20-inch polished aluminum wheels have been redesigned for the new year.

The brand is also giving a minor refresh to the look of the Grand Cherokee’s top-end Summit trim level for 2017, converting several options to standard features on the brand’s most luxurious SUV.

The new Trailhawk will wear the seven-slot Jeep grille that debuted on the 2016 Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary edition.

We can’t wait to see what the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk model will look like but since we do not know when it will be making its debut, we will have to make do with this new rendering. Red tow hooks are mounted front and rear.

Running ground clearance of the Trailhawk is an impressive 10.8 inches when outfitted with the standard 3.6-liter V-6 and the optional 20-in alloy wheels. You get electronic safety minders too, such as blind spot, forward collision and lane departure warnings; adaptive cruise control; and automatic parallel and perpendicular parking systems. The only other Grand Cherokee to get standard four-wheel drive is the fire-breathing SRT version. It also features additional chrome on the grille and other exterior accents. Inside, a new leather interior is offered in four different color schemes, with leather extended to the dashboard, center console, and door panels.

As before, the Summit comes loaded with high-grade features like a suede headliner, door sill lights, an acoustic windshield, Active Noise Cancelation, Berber floor mats, and a 19-speaker, 825-watt Harman Kardon audio system with a trio of subwoofers.

The Grand Cherokee is widely viewed as the first Jeep model to begin the brand’s resurgence. We have featured information from this forum in the past, as they often seem to have their thumb right on the pulse of the Hellcat Jeep world. The Grand Cherokee was Jeep’s second best-selling model globally, trailing only the less expensive Cherokee. Pricing is likely to be announced shortly before Trailhawks hit dealer showrooms. The Trailhawk models for the Cherokee and Renegade models are priced $2,000 and $1,625 above their respective Limited models, which started at roughly $37,400 for the 2016 model year.
