Sukhbir Badal Wednesday demanded that freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev be honoured with the Bharat Ratna.

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar was fielded by the party to attack Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who recently equated JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar to Bhagat Singh.
Bhagat Singh’s last petition that he wrote from Lahore Jail in 1931 reads: “There exists a state of war between the British Nation and the Indian Nation, and secondly, we had participated in that war and were therefore war prisoners”.
The reproduction of the story/photograph in any form will be liable for legal action. “This is sheer insult to our great martyr that has hurt the people nationwide”, asserted BJP Chief.
He added: “It’s obvious that the Congress’s role models have failed and they are having to borrow from others”.
During this three-day programme starting with the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh on March 23, BJP will organise functions across the country during which speeches will be held. “Rahul Gandhi, Tharoor and Congress owe apology to the whole country”, he said.

During Holi celebrations on Thursday, BJP members plan to gather and sing ” Mera rang de basanti chola, mai rang de”, a number from a 1965 movie on Singh titled Shaheed. “For 12 years, it opposed Modi, for two years, it opposed development (under Modi), then it gave respectability to anti-India slogans raised in JNU and now insulting martyrs has become the identity of Congress under Rahul Gandhi”, he told the media at a party briefing. Party spokesperson Shobha Oza pointed out to a decision by the Congress government in Haryana to name the Chandigarh worldwide airport after Bhagat Singh.
