Lethal Belgium attacks raise heat of EU referendum debate

Earlier today, offices and public spaces up and down the United Kingdom marked a minute’s silence in respect of the victims from yesterday’s twin attacks, which stand at more than 30.

The death cult says Belgium was targeted as “a country participating in the worldwide coalition against the Islamic State”.

Just months ago, the building was lit in blue, white and red, as the city showed its solidarity with Paris after the November terror attacks.

The ease with which suicide bombers were able to set off powerful explosions in Brussels has triggered massive security concerns across the globe and also shown how popular European cities have become soft targets for ISIS fighters.

The landmark was bathed in the colors black, yellow, and red.

“I express my entire solidarity with the Belgian people”, French President François Hollande tweeted. Several of the attackers had links to Belgium.

All of Europe is in mourning after two separate terrorist attacks in Belgium. “I think, after the Paris attacks, we were assuming something like this would happen”, Brussels resident Richard Medic told CNN.

There were powerful scenes this evening as the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa lit up in the Belgian colours.

Other landmarks that have been illuminated in Belgium’s national colors so far are the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany, the courthouse in Lyon, France and Rome’s Trevi Fountain, the AP reported.

Brussels airport will remain closed on Wednesday, with flights linking Birmingham and the Belgian capital axed in the wake of the carnage.
