Fiat 124 Spider Will Be Special For The US

Being perhaps the most anticipated Italian mass-produced model after the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Abarth’s version of the Fiat 124 Spider will make its United States debut at the New York Auto Show. For a auto that weighs only 2,336lbs, it delivers 170hp and 184lb-ft torque from a 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine which gives it insane power-to-weight ratio. Buyers will have the choice of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed, paddle-shifted automatic.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has confirmed it will release the new Fiat 124 Spider just in time for Christmas, in the fourth quarter of this year.

Simply put, our Abarth-badged Spider is down on power compared to the one sold in Europe, which explains why it gets a different name.

The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth will be available in FCA showrooms this summer, and pricing information will be published when the model nears its launch date.

For example, the Abarth gets a Sport Mode calibration for the engine, automatic transmission, electric power steering, and stability control system, resulting, according to Fiat, in a sportier and more responsive driving experience.

What is there not to like about the all-new Fiat 124 Spider? In contrast, the Abarth 124 Spider boasts an extra 10 ponies. There’s also Gun Metal Aluminum wheels, header, mirror cover and roll bar. The Elaborazione Abarth’s unique sport suspension includes mono-tube Bilstein front and rear shock absorbers for increased traction and more precise handling. Five colors are available, including white, red, black, gray and white pearl. There is Rosso (red) stitching throughout, including on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, wrapped instrument cluster hood, lower instrument panel and parking brake.

The all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider revives the storied nameplate, bringing its classic Italian styling and performance to a new generation.

Luckily, America’s 124 Abarth doesn’t cede anything to the European version in terms of looks.
