Law enforcement says they’ll target and ticket anyone driving above the posted speed limit – even ONE mile over – beginning Thursday.
In a press release sent Thursday morning, spokesman Jonathan Bandy wrote that the campaign, “zeros in on drivers traveling over the posted speed limit”. The posted speed limit is the speed limit.
Police won’t bother you if you’re only going 1mph over the speed limit, right? Last year about 400 law enforcement agencies participated statewide, with a similar number expected this year, Bandy said.
“The highway patrol will continue to focus on what we do every day”, Snotherly said. When it comes to speeding: Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine – the posted speed limit IS THE LAW.
“The entire point of this is to keep people safe”, Bandy explained. “Speeding was a contributing factor in 23 percent of all fatal crashes in North Carolina”. About 14 percent of the country’s speeding-related fatalities occur on interstate highways each year. “Reaction time, stopping distance and the driver’s ability to avoid roadway hazards are all affected by increased speeds”, said Lt. Col. Robert West, NCSHP.
In regards to drivers and their concerns, Brandy said their goal is to reduce traffic fatalities.

Let’s just hope we get a heads up before it kicks in here in the Lone Star state. During the same week-long campaign in 2015, officers in Wake County handed out speeding tickets to 1,680 drivers. More than 300 speeding tickets were issued in Randolph County during the 2015 campaign.
