Citing “multiple sources”, Re/code say that Apple is telling potential partners that the Apple Pay expansion to mobile websites will be ready before this year’s holiday shopping season. The company is considering expanding this to include Apple notebooks and desktops as well, although these devices now don’t support TouchID, and it’s not clear if Apple Pay for websites will launch with support for these devices. It would also encroach on Paypal’s business and give Apple Pay traction beyond its in-store offering, which is still only minimal in the United States. Apple Pay’s security promise is largely dependent on Touch ID. Apple might make the announcement at June’s WWDC, which is the company’s conference for software developers.

PayPal needs to watch its back because it is among the biggest online secure payment services in the world and Apple Pay poses a big threat to PayPals transaction volumes.
Apple is planning to expand Apple Pay to allow iOS users to make purchases from websites later this year, reports Re/code. The service also offers Apple Pay for in-app purchases.
This is how Apple is pitching the idea to retailers. It’s possible Apple would release an API that used its Handoff feature for continuing a checkout process on a mobile device, but just as plausible Apple will work Touch ID into new MacBooks.

As for using the service in Safari customers will be able to do so without entering an address or payment method as that information is provided by Apple Pay and authenticated through the fingerprint sensor.
