South Korean health authorities said Tuesday a man who recently returned home from Brazil has been confirmed to be infected with the Zika virus.

Zika virus predominantly affects countries in Central and South America, and Zika infection has been associated with paralysis in adults and microcephaly – a congenital condition in which a newborn’s head is smaller than expected – in babies born to mothers who were infected while pregnant. Now health officials are concerned with those people traveling back from Zika stricken areas after spring break.
According to health experts, the symptoms of Zika are usually mild and the majority of people who contract the virus doesn’t develop symptoms.
The researchers then looked at the transmission of other mosquito-borne viruses such as dengue, and the flow of travelers to a city from a Zika-affected country, according to the study published last week in the journal PLOS: Current Outbreaks.
– Should not travel to any area with Zika. The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) said Aedes mosquitoes are found in all countries in the Americas except Canada and continental Chile, and the virus will likely reach all countries and territories of the region where Aedes mosquitoes are found.
Zika virus is posing severe public health implications and is linked to neonatal malformations and neurological disorders affecting newborns.

The DPH said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the test results to the state agency Monday. However, they also identified a number or challenges in implementing these tools, and none of the five was judged ready for full-scale implementation.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services plans to hire two medical entomologists whose first order of business will be to determine where two types of mosquitoes capable of transmitting the Zika virus live.
One key factor that contributed to the Zika virus spread in the Americas is warm temperature.
Vector control on Kauai is searching the person’s property, spraying areas if needed, like they did on Hawaii Island, and investigating areas the person visited on Kauai to see if others may be infected or if there are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The CDC urged people to take extra precautionary measures to prevent against Zika infection when traveling to Latin America or the Caribbean, where a travel “alert” has been issued.
