Mar 25, 2016- West Indies captain Darren Sammy will be confidently aiming for a semifinal spot at the World Twenty20 when the 2012 champions take on South Africa in a Group 1 match on Friday.

However, that proved insufficient as the Windies – led by Johnson Charles (32) and Marlon Samuels (44) – chased it down, if a little nervously, with two balls and three wickets to spare.

The match was a highly anticipated and keenly sought after one, largely due to the presence of the big names like AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Faf du Plessis; just to name a few. With this loss, South Africa’s ambitions of qualifying for the semi-finals hangs by a thread as they depend on Sri Lanka to beat England at Delhi tomorrow.

Their response got off to the worst possible start as Chris Gayle, considered the best player in the world in the shortest format of the game, was bowled by Kagiso Rabada for just four runs. West Indies has been a care free side and they look to crush their opposition but they will have to adjust according to the situation and then go on take on the bowlers.

Gayle came back to dismiss David Miller, and by this time the Proteas were in complete disarray at 47 for 5 by the ninth over. In his last over, he picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls to get South Africa right back into the game.

South Africa desperately need a victory after picking up one win from two games as they bid to show the world that they have what it takes to clinch a first global trophy. De Kock and David Wiese put up a 50-run stand to ensure that South Africa went past the 100-run mark, but the opener fell soon after for 47.

West Indies have won the toss and opted to bowl first against South Africa.

But next up, the Proteas received their biggest blow when de Villiers, trying to flick through midwicket, was cleaned up by a slower ball from Bravo in the eighth over.

South Africa’s fate is no longer in their hands.

Bravo grabbed his second wicket of the game when he got Wiese to offer a skier at mid-off.

West Indies: Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Andre Fletcher, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Dinesh Ramdin (wk), Darren Sammy (capt), Carlos Brathwaite, Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn.
