Mercedes CLA and CLA45 get a nip and tuck before NY
The refreshed versions of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA will be showcased at the New York Auto Show on March 23.

It’s the usual facelift fodder for the CLA, with changes to bumpers, grilles, alloys, updated trim and a slimmer 8* infotainment screen, as well as new options like LED High Performance headlights. There’s no word yet on how much the new CLA will cost, but we don’t expect much change over the current prices, suggesting that the saloon will start at around £25,000, some £1000 less than the Shooting Brake. The rear bumper is optionally available with a panel incorporating a trim strip in chrome or black (Night package) between the tailpipes.
Mercedes-Benz’s polarizing CLA and CLA45 sedans four-door coupes will show off subtle refinements at this year’s ny auto show.
Mercedes has tweaked its successful front-drive CLA-Class sedan and Shooting Brake.
Inside, the CLA receives revised instruments with red needles, a new range of seat upholstery, updated trim elements and the chrome plated controls introduced to the facelifted A-class in 2015. The hot-to-trot Mercedes-AMG CLA45 ups those figures to 375 and 350, respectively.
A new option in the range is the CLA180, which features a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 120bhp.
Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division claims that the E43 can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. This motor is capable of producing 329bhp of peak power and around 480Nm of torque.
In a statement, Mercedes AMG division chief executive officer Tobias Moers said, “The new AMG E43 offers impressive driving dynamics coupled with cutting-edge efficiency”. The 181bhp 2.0-litre 220 engine, for example, is now available with four-wheel drive, and the little 180 engine is now offered in frugal BlueEfficiency guise.

Both of these CLAs come with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It will be followed by a full-blown, range-topping model called E63 that’s expected to pack a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 tuned to develop at least 600 horsepower. The front end is certainly Mercedes-benz, but the rear does look very odd to see nothing there as such.
