Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi will visit Assam today to address the party election rallies.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address rallies at Rangapara and Karimganj on March 27. “Assam elections is a personal loss for me because I’ve to send one of my most capable ministers Sarbanand Sonowal for campaigning. “I want nothing more, give Sarbananda five years. 2000 villages in Assam without electricity”.
Majauli is one of the biggest river islands on earth with a 60-decade old heritage, and still awaits for basic developments since 67 years of independence.
At his Tinsukia rally, he said that though the word “Tinsukia” meant happiness, the district was anything but and that the BJP would work to bring back the happiness. “We cherish our long-standing ties & am sure our relations will grow even further”, the Prime Minister tweeted. “I seek blessings from Assam”, Modi added. “I am not fighting Gogoi but Gareebi (poverty)”, Mr Modi said as he began his campaign for the BJP which hopes to wrest power from the Congress which has ruled the state under Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for 15 years now. Majuli goes on polling in the first phase of the elections on April 4.
