Busch Grabs Elusive Indy Victory as Comeback Continues
Perhaps the most impressive thing about this streak is that Busch hasn’t really been dominant in any of the four races he’s won.

Busch won Saturday’s Xfinity Series race with a charge on the final lap. Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five. Harvick won the 2003 race and led on a restart with 14 laps to go.
Tony Stewart hasn’t announced his retirement, but at age 44, the local favorite is in all likelihood in the latter stages of his NASCAR career.
The only time cars could draft, according to Kurt Busch, was on the restart when a driver had two or three cars in front of him. She said she found an ally in Jeff Gordon, who lived in Pittsboro as he pursued racing and has also announced his retirement from full-time racing after the season.
Jeff Gordon, the record five-time and defending victor of this race, qualified 19th with a lap at 182.389 miles per hour.
It was evident Sunday, this is a package that shouldn’t be used again at this track. Now slotting this run of Busch’s behind any of those periods isn’t a diss at all. The top 13 cars decided to pit, hoping to make it to the finish on a full tank of gas. Meanwhile, David Ragan restarted with the lead. The same holds true for Brad Keselowski.
Harvick maintains a 69-point lead over Logano in the championship standings. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 22nd. Today’s race has numerous cautions and a green-white-checker finish.
On the restart, Kyle Busch pulled ahead with Joey Logano racing on his bumper.
“Nothing better than being in victory lane for one of the biggest wins of my career here at Indy, and sweeping the weekend, as well”, Kyle Busch said after the race.
“Second always hurts, but it is nice to be up toward the front, especially here (at Indianapolis)”, Logano said.
“I guess Kyle (Busch) is back“, Logano said. Sunday’s total was the second fewest for this race since 2011. He also has won the Southern 500 in Darlington, S.C., the night race in Bristol, Tenn., and at his home track in Las Vegas.
And by the way, Busch has now matched six-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson by winning three races in a row, something the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team did in 2007 on its way to a second championship.
Before winning at Indy, Busch won at Sonoma, Kentucky and New Hampshire.
Unlike Saturday, though, when some drivers including Busch needed medical treatment, NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said he was not aware of anyone who went to the infield hospital following Sunday’s race. “Not many can say they had a chance to win at the Brickyard and gave it away, but I did just that”. This Skittles Camry was awesome. It might have just been a bad set of tyres but we couldn’t do anything with it. We had a lot better vehicle than that at a lot of points during the race.
With all the momentum in the world on his side, he very well could win Darlington next month and carry that all the way towards the Chase for the Championship… all after missing 11 races for a broken leg and a broken foot. He missed the first eleven races of the season.
Busch still has some work to do to make the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Busch isn’t where he needs to be in the standings quite yet.
Chase Battle Intensifies: For all intents and purposes, you can now include Kyle Busch into the Chase Grid. Been a while since we’ve had a day like that.
This marked the second race NASCAR tried out it’s new track specific rules package.
