The Denver-based software account manager, 27, proposed to Lauren Bushnell on the season finale of the ABC series on Monday night.
It should be noted, however, that Fletcher’s mother is Persian, and she talks about her heritage on the official website for The Bachelor.
“Now that I’m out of that world and we’re together and looking at life from here on out, it’s a lot easier”, Higgins says.
“We don’t really know what opportunities that lie ahead of us, so I think it’s something that we both are open to”, Bushnell says. In 31 seasons between The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, there has been only one person of colour featured, the controversial American-born Venezuelan Juan Pablo Galavis.
Once Higgins got down on one knee to ask Bushnell to marry him, Twitter users were up in arms about the decision.
“First off, JoJo as the bat, I think she deserves it. How they decide on “The Bachelorette” is not up to me”. She tells Ben that she is ready to spend her life with him.
Bushnell revealed she has chosen to watch just “bits and pieces” of “The Bachelor” as her relationship with Higgins unfolded. “I’m happy for you”, she managed to reply politely.
Many fans were surprised and upset with his choice, but Higgins decided he loved Lauren more than Fletcher. “I can’t apologize for being honest or expressing what I thought was best to express at the time”, says Higgins.
Ben was so conflicted with his feelings for the two ladies that even when he finally bid goodbye to JoJo during the Break Up Limo scene, he said that he was not even sure if he should propose to Lauren. Thanks to Ben’s openness and honesty, Ben and Lauren are extremely happy despite all the drama.
JoJo declared that she’s moved on “in a sense”.
